Tribute concert to Dire Straits takes place on Denmark Tour
Dire Straits Tribute
After sold-out venues around Sweden for several years, the tribute concert “A Tribute to Dire Straits – On The Swedish Night” will tour in Denmark.
– We have been doing this for six years now, but we are still overwhelmed by the audience’s amazing reception, “says sologist Stefan Jonsson.
Now everyone who loves Mark Knopfler and his old band Dire Straits has something to look forward to. The title “On The Swedish Night” is referring to Dire Strait’s popular live album “On The Night”.
It all started like a fun thing at a café in their hometown six years ago. The band, consisting of Totte Rajamäki, Stefan Jonsson, Sven Hammarström, Ola Johansson, Janne Stål and Martin Lindqvist, wanted to create a local music scene in their hometown. The result became a tribute to Dire Straits. But it was not just a local phenomenon, today they tour a lot and are praised by audience as well as critics for their interpretations of Mark Knopflers legendary band. Prior to the forthcoming tour, the band promises to deliver the best tribute of Dire Straits ever.
“Before this tour, we’ve cut everything to deliver the biggest and best we’ve ever done,” says singer Totte Rajamäki.
Dire Straits was formed by Mark Knopfler, John Illsley, David Knopfler and Pick Withers in 1977 and became a world success. During the World Tour 1985-1986, three million people bought tickets, and the band sold over 100 million records with hits like “Sultans of swing”, “Walk of Life” and “Money for nothing”. Dire Strait’s best-selling album, “Brother in Arms”, was the first album to sell over a million copies of the new CD format. The band was dissolved in 1995 but their hits survive through the tribute concert “A Tribute to Dire Straits”.
